 “Empowering Communities, Transforming Lives: PLANE Making a Difference in Rural Uganda”

PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) is a Non-Governmental Organization, NOT for profit operating in Uganda with their offices located in Fort Portal Tourism City, Western Uganda. PLANE advocates and protects children and women’s rights through provision of prevention and multi-disciplinary intervention in investigation and information dissemination through radio drama and outreaches so as to have a health -violence free society.

The organization helps transform the lives of the disadvantaged populations in Uganda through empowerment programs, human rights advocacy, and health and literacy promotion so that they can have a better quality of life.

PLANE focuses on general health awareness promotion, social security, and economic empowerment for teenage mothers, preventing violence against children and women, human rights promotion, and mitigating the impact of violence against children and the youth and other related interventions.

PLANE implements programs aimed at educational support to orphans and vulnerable children by providing scholastic materials and school fees. We also implements programs for empowering young mothers and rural women through livelihood interventions. In addition, we greatly support intervention on Gender-Based Violence prevention, sexual reproductive health rights, water, sanitation and hygiene for rural communities.

Founded in 2010, PLANE is registered with the Uganda National NGO Board Reg.No. INDR111193949NB and Kabarole District Reg.No.2323. The organization has developed potential capacity and recognition in enhancing Health promotion Programs, advocacy for the protection of children’s rights with emphasis on girl child education, Youth and Teenage Mothers Empowerment, caring and improving lives of vulnerable children and ensuring a well-equipped and knowledgeable

At the core of PLANE’s mission is the empowerment of youth and women, recognizing them as the driving forces of change within their communities. Through various programs and initiatives, PLANE works tirelessly to provide opportunities for skill development, entrepreneurship, and leadership training, enabling individuals to reach their full potential and become catalysts for positive transformation.

Education lies at the foundation of PLANE’s efforts, with a strong focus on supporting needy children and orphans in accessing quality education. By eliminating barriers to learning and providing essential resources, such as school supplies, uniforms, and tuition support, PLANE ensures that every child has the opportunity to receive a proper education and build a better future.

In addition to education, PLANE places a significant emphasis on maternal health and reproductive health, recognizing the critical importance of women’s wellbeing in society. Through awareness campaigns, health clinics, and support services, PLANE works to ensure that women have access to essential healthcare services and information, promoting a culture of health and wellness within the community.

Teenage mother’s empowerment is another key area of focus for PLANE, as the organization seeks to break the cycle of poverty and empower young mothers to build a better future for themselves and their children. By providing vocational training, financial literacy, and emotional support, PLANE equips teenage mothers with the tools they need to become self-sufficient and independent members of society.

Addressing gender-based violence is a priority for PLANE, as the organization advocates for the rights and protection of women and girls against all forms of abuse and discrimination. Through counseling services, legal support, and community outreach, PLANE works to create a safe and supportive environment where victims of gender-based violence can seek help and justice.

Finally, PLANE is actively engaged in environmental education and conservation efforts, recognizing the importance of sustainable practices for the long-term wellbeing of the community. Through awareness programs, tree planting initiatives, and waste management projects, PLANE instills a sense of environmental responsibility and stewardship among community members, fostering a harmonious relationship with nature.

PLATFORM for the NEEDY is responding call for expression of interest to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. PLANE is one of the national charity agencies in the country operating in Ruwenzori region set up in 2011 and registered at the national level (under NGO Bureau) in 2014 operating under the NGO Act of 2006. PLANE is member of Girls not Bride Uganda (GNBU) alliance, a fraternity that is focused on fighting teenage pregnancy and early marriages in Uganda.

The Initiative is an incorporated charitable entity based in Uganda in East Africa.

Primarily, PLANE is into charitable work mainly children and women rights protection and GBV prevention, Educational support. HIV prevention and Sexual Reproductive Health, Livelihood and economic empowerment, Environmental conservation and Water, sanitation and hygiene.

PLANE is run by a group of professionals dedicated to support the underserved and vulnerable populations. PLANE has a dedicated board of 7 members and 5 Trustees supported the secretariat/management team of staff (7) and core volunteers, Global Ambassadors and other volunteers with technical expertise who support field level interventions.

The Life Of a Rural Ugandan Child

Many Ugandan children face a troubling life with malnutrition, lack of education, and exposure to crime. 49 out of 1000 children living in Uganda die before their 5th birthday. 29% of children suffer from stunting due to malnutrition. 16% of children in Uganda are engaged in child labour. 56% of Uganda’s children suffer from multiple deprivations.
