Drama Project: Bahemuka Initiative
For those interested in volunteering with PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) Uganda for the Bahemuka Drama Project:
- Background: The Bahemuka Drama Project, meaning “to be ashamed” in the Rutooro language, was created by PLANE to raise awareness on critical health issues, women’s and children’s rights in challenging-to-reach communities in the Rwenzori region. Through radio dramas and community outreach, the project aims to educate, engage, and entertain the public by using local dialects and tailored messages.
- Why Volunteer: Volunteering with the Bahemuka Drama Project offers you the opportunity to be part of an initiative that impacts communities through creative storytelling and education. By contributing your time and talents, you can help raise awareness on HIV prevention, Sexual Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), children and women’s rights, and domestic violence, ultimately making a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals in Uganda.
- Goal for Volunteering: The goal of volunteering with the project is to enhance awareness and information on HIV, SGBV, and domestic violence prevention among 3,800,000 people in over 13 districts of Western and mid-western Uganda. Your involvement as a volunteer can help amplify the reach and impact of the Bahemuka Drama, contributing to increased health awareness in hard-to-reach communities in the region.
- How to Contribute: As a volunteer, you can contribute by participating in drama productions, assisting with scriptwriting or production coordination, supporting community outreach initiatives, and providing feedback on the effectiveness of the messages conveyed. Your creativity, communication skills, and dedication can help bring critical health issues and rights advocacy to the forefront through engaging drama performances.
- Benefits and Impact: Volunteering with the Bahemuka Drama Project offers you the chance to use art and storytelling as a powerful tool for social change and awareness-raising. By volunteering, you can help disseminate important information, promote behavioral change, and empower communities to address health challenges and human rights issues. Your contribution can lead to increased access to preventive services, accurate information dissemination, and improved awareness on crucial topics affecting vulnerable populations.
Join us in supporting the Bahemuka Drama Project and be a part of a creative endeavor that educates, entertains, and empowers communities in Uganda. Your volunteer efforts can help drive positive change, spark meaningful conversations, and contribute to a more informed and engaged society.
