Fort Portal regional hospital (Buhinga) has turned into a death trap for mothers delivering there.

Mid October Juliet Kabasita a teacher at Burungu primary school in Karambi sub county died at Fort Portal hospital over health workers negligence.

On July 19^th 2015 ,two pregnant mothers identified as Lucia Busingye, 23, and Jacqueline Tumwekwase, 33, all residents of Rwabimba, Kitule in Hakibale sub-county, Kabarole district died in labour over mid wives negligence after they were referred to the regional hospital from Kibasi Health Centre III in Hakibale Sub-County.

Hardly two months after the mid October incident, 28-year- old Mbabazi Doreen Harriet has died in labor at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital due to surgical doctors negligence.

Mbabazi a resident of Magunga Village, Kiraro parish Mugusu Sub County died day at around 5:00am on Tuesday in the maternity ward.

Mbabaazi Sarah and Kemigisa Doreen relatives to the deceased say they arrived at the hospital at 11:00pm and found only one nurse who tried her best to put her on drip.

They said after narrating to the nurse that the mother usually delivers by caesarian section, the nurse tried to call doctors on duty to come and operate the woman but her calls were not answered.

The nurse who this time portrayed her ethics, sent the hospital driver, to pick the two doctors from their resident to come and operate her but heartlessly the two doctors refused to go on duty.

After hours of struggling and suffering, the Nurse had no option until 5:00pm when Harriet Mbabazi breathed her last.

Kemigisa and Mbabazi while shedding tears narrated to our reporter that, five children died on Monday night due to lack of nurses to attend to mothers and enable deliver since there was only one committed, loving and hardworking nurse in the maternity.

The deceased Husband Musinguzi Patrick says he has dragged the hospital to police accusing doctors on duty of causing the death of her loveUpon hearing the incident Burahya County MP Steven Kagwera rushed to the hospital but he was shocked to find no single administrator in office at 4:00pm.

Kagwera stormed Fort Portal Police and demanded the Acting OC/CID Joshua Tusingwire to ensure the two doctors are arrested and prosecuted in courts of law.

Kagwera however strongly condemned unbecoming habit of irresponsible doctors and mid wives at the Referral Hospital who have turned the facility a death trap.

The legislature explains that unless all stakeholders team up and fight the irresponsible health workers at Fort Portal referral hospital, we should accept to bury more mothers and children or abandon the facility.
