Waddell Steven
Founder & Executive Director PLANE Uganda
Steven’s journey from a victim of domestic violence to a passionate advocate for the rights of vulnerable children and women is nothing short of inspiring. Born into a humble and poor family, Steven’s early life was marked by hardship and suffering inflicted upon him by his own relatives. Despite the challenges he faced, Steven persevered and embarked on a remarkable educational journey, obtaining various degrees in education, journalism, and communication.
With a background in both teaching and journalism, Steven’s professional career exposed him to the stark realities of domestic violence and abuse faced by many women and children in his community. The harrowing experiences he witnessed while working in the media industry fueled his determination to make a difference and stand up for those who are voiceless and marginalized.
In 2019, Steven received recognition for his unwavering commitment to advocating for women and vulnerable children’s rights through radio programs aimed at addressing their plight. His personal experiences of abuse and his dedication to creating positive change in society led him to establish PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) – an organization dedicated to combating gender-based violence and promoting children’s rights.
Steven’s motivation to start PLANE was further fueled by the support and mentorship he received from Dr. Keith Morton Waddell, a figure who played a pivotal role in shaping Steven’s academic and personal development. It is this profound sense of gratitude and determination to pay it forward that drives Steven to call upon the global community to join him in his noble cause.
Through PLANE, Steven seeks to empower and uplift those who have been silenced and oppressed, providing them with a platform to have their voices heard and their rights protected. His vision is rooted in creating a world where every child and woman can live free from fear, violence, and discrimination.
In a world where the vulnerable are often overlooked and marginalized, Steven’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the power of resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication to making a difference. As he continues his mission to create a more just and equitable society, Steven’s call to action echoes loudly, inviting others to stand alongside him in the fight for justice and equality.
